TotalEnergies celebrates its 100th anniversary!
On March 28, 1924, the forerunner of TotalEnergies – the Compagnie française des pétroles (the French Petroleum Company) – was created.
In the aftermath of the First World War, France was a country with almost no oil reserves and realized that it was entirely dependent on British and American oil companies for its supply.
It was aware of the urgent need for access to petroleum resources as a matter of national security.
This would be the mission entrusted to the Compagnie française des pétroles.
An epic industrial tale then unfolded as our Company followed the path of history, keeping up with the pace of technological advances and the changing needs of society.
This remarkable adventure has been made possible by generations of women and men who have worked for the Company over the last hundred years and have always been driven by their boldness, their passion and their commitment.
As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we face new challenges: reconciling increasing energy demand and the imperative of carbon neutrality for the planet and building the energy system of tomorrow – in which gas and electricity, particularly renewables, will have an increasingly important role – while continuing to provide the energy the world needs today.
Alongside our customers and partners and guided by the pioneering spirit that has driven us since our origins, we are ready to support the energy transition, to be one of its key players and to reinvent ourselves again and again.
Our goal: continuing to provide the energy the world needs today while building the energy system of tomorrow.
A huge challenge that the men and women at TotalEnergies are ready to meet, as they write the narrative of the next hundred years, with their Pioneer Spirit.
